Palm oil comes from the reddish pulp of the African oil palm, Elaeis guineensis (9).

Many palm oil plantation workers are exposed to extreme amounts of smoke which leads to widespread respiratory problems (10).

Palm oil workers are paid little to no money for their labor. They are often exposed to diseases and left without access to proper medical treatment (10).
