LUSH has quickly taken the cosmetics world by storm with their bath bombs, shampoo and conditioner bars, and soap by the slice, all of which are innovative ideas within the cosmetics industry. Their claim to fame lies in their six core values through which they promote their goals, principles, and their product line.

Their goals are:

  • To be a naked company, which means they use minimal packaging for their products.

  • 100% vegetarian, which means that no animal products can be found in any of their products.

  • To buy the freshest cosmetics, which means they only make their products with the freshest ingredients they can get their hands on.

  • To fight animal testing, which means that 100% of their products are not testing on animals and they do not buy ingredients from suppliers that test on animals.

  • To hand make their products, which means that every product is created by person not a machine.

  • And buy ethically, which means that when they buy ingredients for their products they do it in a manner that positively impacts the community from which it is harvested.

As part of their ethical buying goal, LUSH Handmade cosmetics has removed palm oil from their soap base:

“LUSH North America has now switched all of its soap production to this new palm-free base, and we are also using palm-free glycerin. Our end goal is to remove palm oil from all of our products, and we are currently investigating our surfactants which might be palm oil derived. Here at LUSH we understand that if the rainforests have any chance of surviving, retailers are going to have stop putting palm oil into their products.” (11)
